12 Days of Christmas Interview with Eva Meijer of Eva Gems & Jewels

Please introduce yourself

Hello, I'm Eva from Eva Gems & Jewels! I'm a gemologist, gem dealer and fine jewellery designer specialising in rare, coloured gemstones.

Tell us about when you first discovered that jewellery was a passion

When I was at primary school, I gave a presentation about minerals. Something I'd totally forgotten about until I decided to say goodbye to my corporate career! I wanted to leave the black-and-world and enter a much more colourful one. And so, a gemmology degree in the coloured gem trading hub of Bangkok seemed like the perfect thing to do!

Which piece of jewellery would you never be without during the holidays, and why?

Sparkly spinel earrings for sure... I love the quality and rarity of this unknown gemstone. The high sparkle and amazing variety of stunning colours it comes in (ranging from traffic light red, to hot pink and pastel lilac and lavender shades), make it a must-have stone for the Holidays!

Which piece of jewellery would you put under your tree… for yourself?

A hot pink spinel or sapphire ring. Love the edginess of neon pink and to have that unique colour captured by a rare gemstone combines modern style and ancient luster into one for me.

If you could share one piece of your jewellery with anyone - what would you share and with who?

The set of dangling, sparkly earrings set with excellent-cut blue and green aquamarines and with some pink sapphires thrown into the mix. They'd be lovely for the stunning actress Lotte Verbeek, our Queen Maxima or+F4:G4 Sara Blakely (to name a few ladies)! The stones would go perfectly with their skin tone, eyes and hair.

And which piece from the Covett Vault is first on your list to welcome 2022 with, and why?

Hard to choose! But I'd love the Le Ster Zadie Earrings. The original, star design and blue sapphire & diamond gem combination, make it perfect for a new year full of new ideas and opportunities! They radiate optimism and joy for the year to come.
